Wayne Smith started work with Pioneer in 1992 and progressed through the company from a staff-level Geologist to Environmental Services Director to an executive management position. Wayne is the most senior environmental consultant at the firm, and his 20+ years of experience include the successful performance of more than a thousand site assessment, remediation, and regulatory closure projects throughout the United States. His efforts are mainly spent on relatively large and/or more complex environmental projects where he acts as a senior project manager and also provides supporting project oversight services for numerous other jobs and Pioneer staff. In his capacity, the development and implementation of soil and groundwater remediation programs, risk assessments, and assisting clients with State and Federal environmental rules and regulations, and regulatory negotiations are common daily functions.
A significant part of his responsibilities also include client development, client relationship management as well as revenue generation, and new business opportunities. Over the years, Wayne has become extremely proficient in the interpretation and application of environmental regulations and gained valuable insight and expertise in a variety of environmental areas, especially Brownfields Redevelopment and regulatory closure projects. This expertise has afforded him the opportunity to be a featured panel speaker at various environmental conferences and seminars.
Wayne graduated college with degrees in Geology and English and is a Licensed Professional Geologist in Illinois. He has been and is currently a member of various industry and real estate trade organizations. Wayne is an avid sports fan and enjoys Cardinals baseball games in the summer and Blackhawks hockey games in the winter. The oldest of his three children proudly serves as a sergeant in the US Army.
